About 12 km from Tuzla, is the children’s village “Selo Mira”, which stands for Village of Peace.
Here, the Rudolf Walther Foundation built a children’s village right after the terrible war in former Yugoslavia. This war has taken many children parent’s homeland. There are currently about 170 children living in the children’s village. Even grandparents who were on the run with their grandchildren were taken to the children’s village “Selo Mira”.
Children from broken marriages find a new home here. Until the age of 18, they remain in the care of “Selo Mira”. Adolescents who are in school, can stay in the Youth House until graduation. The Children’s Village offers apprenticeships in various occupations. Interested youths have the opportunity to practice in a sewing shop, a kitchen, a car repair shop and/or a nursery. Bread Against Misery set up a training and production bakery next to the training center in mid-December 2005. The first training was imparted by baker master. Even young people who live outside the children’s village have the opportunity to be trained as a baker. They bake both German and country-typical baked goods.
