In September 2003, Bread Against Misery built a training bakery in Lebanon. It is located in the city of Tyros in southern Lebanon. Tyros is located on the seafront, 95 km south of Beirut. The port city is one hour far by car from Beirut.
Here, the foundation’s cooperation partner, the Al Jaafarieh Charitable Foundation, has built a home for mentally disabled and non-disabled children and adolescents. The “Mosan Center for Special Needs” is the only center of this kind in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, about 100 boys and girls are cared and fed. They receive a basic education depending on their skills in different trades.
A volunteer baker trained all new trainees on the baking process, recipes and baking machines manipulation that came from Germany.
They now pass on their knowledge and train not only to the mentally handicapped but also to the needy young people living on the streets. The sale of bakery products, mainly to German-Lebanese or Russian-Lebanese families, will again benefit the aid project.
